Please Read Thoroughly Before Applying!
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in working with us to find employment. If you have worked with a recruiter before, you may find our process a little different because our goals are different.
Our Recruitment Goal:
We need to fully understand the needs of our applicants and employers so we can efficiently make a successful, long-term match!
Company Fee Paid! No Fees To Applicants!
All of our fees are paid by the employer. The applicants do not pay fees! But even though we are technically hired by the employer, it is still important for us to fulfill the needs of the applicants. Not only is this the appropriate thing to do; but, it makes for a better and more long-term placement.
Specific Information Required:
To reach our goal of placing you in the appropriate position, we have to fully understand your needs. Therefore, we need specific answers. Of course, we know that your answers will depend on several variables about the potential position. So, feel free to include more explanation if necessary. But, our recruiters need a place to start to narrow down the choices. After all, if you want to make at least 50K in a 30 mile radius of the DC area, why would we contact you about a position paying 30K in the Orlando area?
Type of Position or Industry
Our ultimate applicant has at least three years experience in the job or industry and wants to stay in that job and industry. The most important information you can provide us is the type of position you are seeking, the industry(ies) and the work environment.
Job Type and Industry Experience Directly Effect Your Compensation - Companies pay for your expertise in a particular job type, industry or both. So, changing either one of these factors can naturally effect your salary. People in some job types, such as computers, can usually change industries without any effect to compensation. So, a computer analyst in the Textiles industry might be able to move to the same position in Banking. But, this is not always the case. While some industries allow you to move around to other positions in the same industry without any effect to your salary. The employment move that will effect your salary the most is changing job type and industry since you will have zero experience in either. Why should a company pay you a premium for experience that is not required for the job? Overall, the best method to taking an increase in salary or a vertical move in position is to aim for the same type of job in the same industry.
Salary Minimum and Target
While applicants have been taught to dodge this issue, we need to have a full understanding of your salary preferences. To do this, we want a target salary and a minimum salary.
Target Salary - This should be a realistic number or range compared to your recent salary history. We usually prefer for an applicant's target to be within 10% of the current/last job. Of course there are special circumstances. But, remember that this is just the pre-screening. We want to make sure an applicant is realistic compared to market. If we decide to work with you, a recruiter will talk to you in greater detail. The recruiter may determine that you are making well below market and can get a large increase in a new company.
Minimum Salary - This is not our target! The minimum salary is a very important number to choose. This number tells our recruiters that you would not take less than that even if we had the absolute perfect job for you at a lower salary. Our recruiters draw a hardline at that figure.
Be sure to cover these factors as well:
- Do you prefer Commission Only, Salary Only, Base plus Commission/Bonuses, etc?
- Importance of certain types of benefits?
- Fringe benefits such as company car for a sales person.
- Required salary increase for certain types of jobs or situation. For instance, jobs that require more travel or that are a greater distance from your geographical preference.
Salary History
Since most applicants are taught to leave the salary history off the resume, we would like you to include it in your information to us. This is a key piece of information for our recruiters.
Geographical Preferences
Again, applicants have been taught to say they will relocate anywhere. This is not at all realistic. Everybody has a preference. We need to know that. We need to know a preferred and a maximum. So, if you currently live in Chapel Hill, you might drive to Durham and that side of Raleigh. Although, you might take the right position on the other side of Raleigh or Greensboro. You might also say that you are willing to look at certain opportunities in other states.
Other Tips:
1) We do not need multiple copies of your resume. Just one is fine.
2) You do not need to send it priority, FedEx or UPS. Send it standard mail in a standard envelope.
3) Hardly any resume needs to be more than 1-2 pages.
4) Regular white paper is preferred in case we need to scan it.
5) Unless you are in advertising, marketing or graphics, we do not need to see your work. Even in that case, we would prefer to see it on the web. We do not return samples or anything else sent to us!
Email Attachments:
Our recruiters like to have an original, hard-copy resume to see the applicant's professionalism. Also, we do not download any attachments due to viruses.
